Fishing report LAKE CHABOT, CASTRO VALLEY

LAKE CHABOT, CASTRO VALLEY: The staff at Lake Chabot reported bait fishing for trout has picked up. Until this week, anglers have been averaging 1-2 fish per rod. This week, reports have jumped to 2-3 fish. Most of the fish are being taken near Coots Landing and Indian Cove. There have not been any reports from trollers, but expect it to pick up with the clearer water.
The bass bite has been good, especially for this time of year. They are in a pre-spawn mode and are taking kindly to split-shots and drop-shots. Ryan Thoni of Castro Valley caught a 4.5-pound largemouth near Honker Bay on a crank bait. He also reported several other fish he hooked on a drop-shot rig.
There have not been any reports of catfish lately, but that doesn't mean they can't be caught. At this time of year, they tend to be in deep water, usually 20-35 feet deep and sluggish. Fish with an open bail and let them take it. Sardines and chicken livers are the recommended baits.Read Fishing Report
