Columbia fishing report

The Columbia is open only for catch-and-release sturgeon fishing. Wauna Powerlines to Bonneville re-opens to retention October 1 but the remainder of the river is closed until 2007.
Despite the fact that Chinook crossing Bonneville Dam aren't considered part of the fall component (nor counted as such) until August 1, commercial gillnets were allowed to start taking salmon and sturgeon on July 27. Their summer quota had filled. The nets were in the Columbia again on August 2 and will be set overnight on August 7 and 9.
Look for the ODFW to authorize commercial efforts just outside the mouths of Nehalem, Tillamook, Nestucca, Yaquina, Alsea, Siuslaw, Umpqua, Coos, Elk, Rogue and Chetco estuaries in September.
