NORTHERN WISCONSIN fishing

NORTHERN WISCONSIN: Good: Last weekend was the first with universal good ice; and the fishing has been good for the few getting out. Most lakes have 3-5 inches with some holding more than 6. Rain and warm-up should help clear out snow coverings in most areas. So, as Minocqua guide Kurt Justice said, ''You will probably need cleats the rest of the week.'' He said walleye are very good, some as shallow as 4 feet, in the evenings. Shiners and suckers on tip-ups are good, but jigging Raps and Chubby Darters are very good with Minocqua, Squirrel, Star, Little Arb and Carrol have the best reports. Pike are excellent, especially in shallow bays with green weeds. If found, crappie are good on minnows; as are perch in shallow weedy bays with bare mud pockets. Bluegill are good.Fishing Forum
