Yellowstone cutthroat ate the large bugs.
Typically, cutthroat rise slow and steady to the fly. Because the conditions were bright and the water was clear, Pierce could see a large fish moving to the bug, and in his excitement he ripped it off the water before the fish had a chance to take it.
