JAMES RIVER

HIGHLIGHT: Good numbers of 8- to 12-inch smallmouth can be expected this year, and the fishing should get even better the next three to five years, thanks to a highly prolific spawn in 2014.
BEST SPOT: Upper section from Botetourt County to Lynchburg and midsection between Bremo and Bent Creek.
OTHER SPECIES: Flathead and channel catfish are abundant from Lynchburg to Richmond.
TIP: Target the least fished areas located between long stretches of public access.
