NORTHERN WISCONSIN fishing report

Decent: Most lakes have good ice; some bays are holding as much as 10 inches, but some bigger lakes like Fence, Tomahawk and Trout have open water or thin ice in spots, which led to some snowmobile accidents on Lake Katherine and Tomahawk. New Year's Eve snow made for sloppier ice. Guide Kurt Justice said walleye have remained good most nights with wild shiners the best tip-up bait; jigging at night has also worked. With the warm weather, largemouth bass are mixed in with those trying for pike in shallow (6-8 feet). Yellow perch are very good; bluegills are decent and crappie spotty at dawn and dusk.
