Lake Conroe fishing

Catfish are fair to good. Liver is working well for channel and blue catfish with the catch running from 1 to 5 pounds. James said he has had success on main lake points from 28 to 30 feet deep. Liver dipped in Stick It has been working well as bait.
Hybrids are good and some are deep with the catfish. James told me liver or live shad are good baits for hybrids right now and the sizes run 14 to 26 inches long. He said they are plentiful on main lake humps.
Bream are showing up around the rock at the dam from 15 to 28 feet deep on worms. Large hand size bream are filling stringers.

Delaware River bass Fishing

Smallmouth bass and channel catfish began to be cranked from Delaware River, Smallmouths are required to be released through Friday on the river and through Sunday at lakes. The river’s shad fishing was slowing down locally, but shad were still fought. Big Flatbrook fished well for trout, and lots of sulfurs hatched. Customers who trout mostly fish the Flatbrook. Lake fishing was hit or miss, depending on the lake. Largemouth bass and sometimes catfish and hybrid striped bass were pulled in, at lakes that held hybrids. Largemouths must be released through Sunday. Some still spawned, and some were finished spawning, depending on the lake.
Largemouth bass were spawning in lakes and should finish soon,They’re restricted to catch and release through Sunday, but customers hooked them best on Senkos and Keitechs. Top-waters failed to attract the bass much yet. Trout, leftover from spring stocking, continued to be angled from streams. Flies hatching should include sulfurs and gray foxes. Walleyes and hybrid striped bass were pasted on Lake Hopatcong. A variety of other fish like chain pickerel also chewed there. Smallmouth bass fishing should begin to amp up on Delaware River in warming water.

Beaver or the Bark and Oconomwoc Rivers fishing

Largemouth Bass  are in the full-on post spawn period. A few fish are still spawning, but not many. Topwaters (Pop R, Redfins and #11 Floating Rapalas) and crankbaits (Norman Baby N's, wiggle warts and rattletraps) are catching fish over open water areas, especially weed patches on the mid-depth flats in 6-12 feet of water. On the sunny afternoons, the fish have been tighter to cover in 3-8 feet of water and fishing around the docks and in the slop has been picking up. Plastics: Texas rigged lizards, tube jigs skirted grubs, and wacky worms are all catching fish, as always, if the bite is tough, try a jigworm. Live bait on slip sinker rigs are catching a few fish for anglers making solid drifts over productive areas. (Try: Okauchee, Oconomowoc, Pine, Kessus, Nagawicka, Moose, School Section, Pretty, Golden or Emily)

Smallmouth Bass fishing was still slow as fish finish their post-spawn pattern. Minnowbaits, like size 11 or 13 floating rapalas are actually a great way to catch these fish. Keep it simple, black and silver or chartruese and white are the best. If it warms up this weekend and the early part of next week, look for them on sand/rock transition areas and  target them with tubes, skirted grubs or twister tail grubs. (Try: Oconomowoc, Pine, Lac Labelle, Nagawicka, Pewaukee, Beaver or the Bark and Oconomwoc Rivers.)

Clear Creek Reservoir Fishing

Clear Creek Reservoir (Chaffee County): Fishing from shore and boat has been good. Near the dam at the northern part of the reservoir, shore anglers landed several trout by fishing the lake’s bottom with orange glitter PowerBait. Fishing the lake’s bottom with red salmon eggs and Fireballs at the boat ramp parking lot has worked well. Silver Kastmasters (1/8 oz) and red/gold Mepps spinners were also productive at the boat ramp parking lot. During the evening, someone caught a tiger musky on an orange Dardevle spoon at the boat ramp. At the first parking lot area above the boat ramp, the trout favored worms over other types of baits. The most productive flies for fly fisherman were Royal Wulffs and Wooly Buggers. The overall catch from shore generally composed of 8 to 13 inch rainbow and cutbow trout. Fishing remains good from a boat. A majority of boat anglers reported landing 40 to 50 trout per boat. Trolling the southern part of the reservoir with Rapala (3 ½ inch brown trout pattern), gold or silver Kastmasters (1/8 oz), and Panther Martins yielded a high fish catch. Drifting near the shoreline at the upper part of the reservoir while fishing with red or silver/blue Blue Fox spinners (size 1) remains effective. One boat angler landed an 18 inch tiger musky with a Blue Fox inline spinner. Boat anglers enjoyed more kokanee salmon action this week when compared to prior weeks.

Lake Michigan near Muskegon

Fish are looking for warmer water – and fishing boats should look to follow them.
Guides and bait and tackle shops in the greater Muskegon area are reporting salmon in warmer bands of water in Lake Michigan heading into the May 31 weekend.
"The fishing has continued to be very good from Grand Haven to Whitehall," said Kyle Buck of Great Lakes Guide Service. "There are some major temperature breaks set up out there.
"This past Sunday we found a temperature break that went from 57.4 degrees and in about 30 feet dropped to 35.9 degrees. The fish were stacked up there."
Bill Funk, owner and operator of Shoreline Service Bait and Tackle, said that salmon are being caught in 30 feet of water or less in Lake Michigan near Muskegon; also, in a warm strip farther from shore, in 200 feet of water.
Mitch Johnson of Johnson's Great Outdoors in Montague reported that salmon are being caught in 60-120 feet of water in Lake Michigan near White Lake. The fish aren't plentiful or exceptionally large, but they're out there.

Mason City Fishing

Clear Lake
Surface temp is around 55 degrees. Channel catfish   fair: Catfish can be caught on the warmer days with cutbait or minnows. Look for the windy side of the lake. May need to start fishing closer to dark or after dark for shoreline action. White bass   slow: An occasional white bass is being caught near the island. Crappie   fair: Anglers have had some success fishing the canals. Walleye  good: Some walleyes still being caught on rocky shorelines. Anglers are mostly using a 1/16-ounce lead head jig and minnow or twister tails. Walleyes are also being caught on docks along the north shore to the City Beach. The bite has been picking up during the day with the best bite still being at twilight periods. Yellow bass   fair: Some yellows have been caught on the little lake with small artificials. Fish in the shallows on warm days with a slight breeze or try deeper near the boat ramps. Anglers fishing the island have not had much luck yet. Anglers have started to catch some off docks.

Shasta Lake fishing

Shasta Lake >> Bass fishing is excellent. Top water, Senkos will get bass from the I-5 Bridge to the dam. Bass are everywhere. Topwater lures will work all day. Find bass from the surface to 15 feet deep. Bass are in all three phases of the spawn. Most are spots, with a few smallmouth. Phil's Propeller 1-800-462-3917.

Baum Lake >> Fishing has been good on Baum. During the cloudy, wet weather we had last week, there was some pretty good dry fly fishing going on. This lake is a go-to spot on wet weather days. The Fly Shop 222-3555.

Davis Lake >> Trout are off the spawn and starting to move to the west side of the lake. Action is slow because the fish are scattered. Guide Ed Dillard 832-6394; 832-0270.

Clear Lake >> Tournament on Sunday was won with a 27.90 pound bag. Topwater bite will take off with coming warm weather. Bass will move back on to the beds. Senkos and drop-shots worked during cold weather but that will change this weekend. Clear Lake Outdoors (707) 262-5852.
