Lake Erie walleye

The Lake Erie walleye population is very solid and the numbers of catchable fish will be on the upswing this summer after a very good hatch in 2015.
A vibrant walleye population is certainly needed in the Walleye Capital of the World. Sport fishermen keep expanding the walleye season and continuously developing new and different ways to catch the delectable fish.
"It's really amazing to see some of the new techniques, especially when you're chasing cold-water walleye as they are right now on Western Lake Erie,"  The colorful spinner blades are popular with fishermen who troll to connect with their walleye, a major reversal after a generation of drift-and-cast fishing.Trophy walleye have been splashed all over social media this month as double-digit females feed voraciously before spawning on Lake Erie's limestone reefs.

Little Rock area

The greater Little Rock area is brimming with waters where you can sit under a shade tree, on a pier or in a boat to enjoy fishing for largemouth bass, bluegills, catfish, crappie, hybrid stripers and, in some locations, rainbow trout. Columbia River

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife has suspended daily catch limits for several species of fish on the Columbia River.
#The emergency suspension, enacted March 3, allows fishermen to catch bass, walleye and channel catfish without limit or minimum sizes from the mouth of the Columbia River to Chief Joseph Dam.
#Fisheries officials in Oregon previously enacted the rule for a stretch of the river it shares with Washington.
#State officials said the reason for deregulating bass, walleye and channel catfish fisheries is to increase harvest.
#According to Fish and Wildlife officials, the species are non-native and eat juvenile salmon and steelhead.
#The main goal of deregulating the fisheries for bass, walleye and channel catfish is to increase harvest of those non-native species, state warmwater fish manager Bruce Bolding said.
#In addition to deregulating Columbia River catch limits, the emergency rule applies to several tributaries.
#Those include Klickitat County’s Wind River, Drano Lake, White Salmon River, Klickitat River and Rock Creek

Lake Norman

Located in the southern region of the state, Lake Norman is the fishing spot for cooler-weather anglers to find blue catfish in November, according to Game and Fish magazine. Larger catfish weighing over 30 pounds swim with schools of white perch, but they can be reeled in with regularity on expansive flats and in deeper channels of the lake. These parts of the lake are not bogged down by underwater snags such as rock outcrops and tree stumps, so fishermen can discover their ideal fishing location by trying different spots and then using their GPS to map out the best trolling alleys.

Kentucky

Kentucky is restoring the native, river-run walleye to its former range through stocking efforts. To protect these fish, an 18- to 26-inch protective slot limit and a two fish daily creel limit will go into effect on several river systems throughout Kentucky. All walleye caught from 18 to 26 inches in length from these waters must be immediately released.
“We are trying to give greater protection to the breeding-sized native walleye in the population,” said Dave Dreves, assistant director of fisheries for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. “These walleye are about 5 years old before they are sexually mature. We’ve found a 5-year-old walleye is a little over 20 inches long.”
These walleye previously fell under the statewide regulations of a six fish daily creel limit with a 15-inch minimum size limit.
