Flounder catches have really picked up with some limit catches being made and doormats are being caught. Sheepshead fishing remains excellent. Spadefish of various sizes are hanging around the structure. Sight-casters are finding cobia and large red drum in the area. Anglers trolling spoons are catching Spanish mackerel and small bluefish.
The closure, first announced in March, is meant to prevent walleyes from dying after being caught and released, a tendency called hooking mortality, which increases as the water warms.
