Spirit Lake

Walleye – Fair: Walleyes action has slowed on the lake. Fish the basin; don’t overlook the weed edges. Use crawlers and bottom bouncers or troll crankbaits. Yellow Perch – Good: Good numbers of fish are being caught. Try a yellow and white mini jig tipped with wigglers fished in the outside edges of the weed beds. Move often to find active fish.

Lake Minnewaska

Lake Minnewaska: Some walleyes are being caught during lowlight periods around the lake’s bulrush edges, according to Minnewaska Bait and Tackle in Starbuck on the lake’s west side. During early morning hours, anglers are finding largemouth bass and northern pike. The lake is producing a good sunfish bite, especially off Barsness Point and Priest Point and out from Starbuck Beach.

Lake Hendricks

Water temperatures are in the low 80’s. Clarity is poor with an algae bloom limiting visibility. Fish are sitting higher in the water column. Black Crappie – Fair: Crappie are hit or miss. A slow troll might get one to come to a hook. Bluegill – Fair: Find fish on the edge of weed beds. Use a small piece of worm about a foot below a bobber. Largemouth Bass – Fair: Use topwater lures fished in the edge of weeds. Channel Catfish – Good: Channel catfish are biting. Use worms, stink bait or cheese baits. Leave your bait on the bottom until you feel a tug; set the hook.

Clear Lake

The water temperature is in the upper 70’s. Walleye – Fair: Anglers are having success slip bobber fishing the rock reefs with a jig and leech and fishing under docks with a minnow. Channel Catfish – Good: Drift fish with cut bait. Shore anglers should try chicken liver or stink bait fished on the bottom. Yellow Bass – Good: Fish the edge of vegetation in 4 to 6 feet of water with a small piece of crawler or leech.

Lake Arthur,

 anglers are catching plenty of smallmouth bass on worms and tubes. The bass appear to be congregating in the weed beds, for the most part. Fishermen are also doing well with panfish at the lake, primarily using minnows to lure them in. The panfish are being spotted in the areas around the shoreline that are littered with brush.

St. Joseph:

Perch fishing was pretty good this past week, although fish were scattered. The most productive water was around 35 feet. South of the piers seemed to produce more fish than the north. Boat anglers caught lake trout in 120 feet of water. Pier anglers caught lots of catfish and a few steelhead. South Haven: Poor weather and rough waves hampered fishing. A few salmon anglers caught lake trout and the occasional steelhead. The most productive depth was around 80 to
90 feet of water. Pier anglers caught steelhead, but lake temperatures warmed and the fishing slowed. Perch fishing remained steady in 40 feet of water. Grand Haven: Boats were starting to see an increase in salmon numbers with the best action found 40 to
120 feet down in 110 to 180 feet of water. Glow spoons worked well, along with green or blue meat rigs.
Lake trout were caught off the bottom with yellow spin-glo’s, Pier anglers caught largemouth bass on worms and gobies. Steelhead action slowed due to warmer water temps. Morrison Lake: Was producing limit catches of panfish. Muskegon: A mix of trout and salmon were caught at 45 to 125 feet down in 100 to 180 feet of water. Meat rigs worked well in green, red and blue.

Lake Erie

Anglers in smaller boats, even kayaks and canoes, are catching walleye in water 15 feet-deep to 30 feet-deep during mornings and evenings. Most of the medium size to large boats are concentrating on depths of 40 feet to 60 feet. Both drifters and trollers are catching walleye on any of the popular types of lures, and in just about any color pattern you might find in local tackle shops. Maybe the single hottest lure is the new Bay Rat Spoon. Start fishing right above the thermocline.
As it has been for a couple of years, perch fishing has been poor in Lake Erie, or at least most reports are poor. But a general lack of perch anglers makes it relatively difficult to locate perch. Try out of North East Marina in 45 feet to 50 feet of water. Maybe the best nearby perch fishing has been at 50 feet to 60 feet out of Dunkirk by the buoy. For a change, try using nightcrawlers or leeches for bait.

LONGVIEW

: low to mid 80s, stained (2 feet), about normal. Outlook: Longview Marina reports: fishing has been slow to fair overall in the past week. Catfish have been biting the best in the last week. Worms or prepared baits have been productive baits. Look for water inflows. Bass have been fair on plastics in brush piles and along weeds. Morning bite is better. Whites have been schooling intermittently in 5-12 feet of water near timber in the Little Blue River arm near drop offs.
