Michigan steelhead runs

The steelhead runs are at their peak in a lot of areas around Michigan due to recent warm temperatures, the state Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday in its weekly Recreational Fishing Report.

Some smelt activity has been reported this week as water temperatures have warmed slightly. Ideal water temperatures for smelt are 42 to 44 degrees. Most water temperatures are hanging right around the 40 degree mark, the DNR said.
